Artful Chapter Goes Formal as Repertory Philippines Turns 50

It is not very often that I get invited to a formal affair. So I was kinda stumped on what to wear when I got an invitation to attend a musical gala celebrating Repertory Philippines' 50 Years of Telling Stories. Such an important event demands attendees to dress up in their best.

Before we go into that, let me tell you what the celebration is all about.

Repertory Philippines Turns Gold

Repertory Philippines turned 50 this year. Oh yes, 50 years of producing quality stage performances, 50 years of training stage actors, and 50 years of making the Filipino audience realize the beauty of theater. Did it succeed? You bet it did.

Come Home to Rep

The celebration was not only extended to the audience. It was mainly an invitation to Rep Babies to come home to Rep and perform on one stage and remember where they all started. It was such an exciting show to watch that I felt very happy to be among those who witnessed this historic performance.

I noticed that black dictated the night when it came to color of attire.  As you can see below, all Rep actors wore black during the curtain call. Everyone was certainly looking their finest.

Formal Attire

So now back to the topic which my readers would be very interested in. What was my attire for the event? Did I have to buy something new? Actually I didn't.

I played it safe and wore a Studio black dress my mother bought several years ago from SM. She got this classy dress at 50% off. There was no specific reason she bought it but thought it would come handy some day. I'm really glad she did. All I did was accessorize it with a slim black belt with silver buckle, I paired it with plain suede black pumps from Figlia.

My mother chose to go in black as well. Wearing her long time favorite Criselda Lontok of Rustan's blouse and long skirt with a printed shawl from H&M, she was ready to go but not without her plain black pumps as well from H&M. Mind you, that dress is about 15 years old. I really should take note how my mother takes care of her clothes.

So you see dear readers, you don't have to miss any event which requires you to wear something formal. When in doubt, wear black and keep it simple.
